소요리문답은 107개의 질문과 답변을 통해 교리를 가르치는 책인데, 영어로 된 것은 400년 전에 쓰였던 고어체 영어와 지금과 많이 다른 단어로 작성되었다. 또한, 질문과 답을 각각 한 문장으로 만들기 위해 말도 안 되는 긴 문장으로 늘인 영어 문장들이 많았다. 그러다 보니 번역되어 나온 소요리문답은 이해하기 힘든 부분들이 많아서 보는 데 어려움이 있다. 그래서 저자는 옛 말투를 요즘 말로 바꾸고 영어 원문을 따라가느라 쓸데없이 길어진 문장은 적절히 나누고, 중의적으로 해석될 여지가 있는 표현은 최대한 배제하여 번역했다. 이 책을 통해 모든 세대들이 신앙의 기초석을 쌓는 데 도움이 되기를 바라는 마음으로 써 내려갔다.
