드류대학교의 구성신학 교수로서, 요한계시록 해석의 세계적인 전문가이다. 하이델베르크대학교, 에덴신학교, 클레어몬트대학원에서 공부했다. 제2차 세계대전이 끝나고 동서냉전 체제의 핵무기 경쟁과 함께 세계경제가 급격히 성장하면서 인류세(Anthropocene)가 본격화되었고, 결국 인류는 두 가지 절박한 위기들에 직면하게 되었다. 핵전쟁 위기와 생태계 파괴와 기후변화로 인한 대멸종 위기다. 켈러는 휴거와 내세 중심의 현실도피적 종말론이 아니라 현실 변혁과 치유의 예언자적 종말론을 제시한다. 또한 성차별, 인종차별, 경제적 불의, 민주주의의 해체 위기 등 긴급한 문제들에 대해 과정신학, 여성신학, 생태신학, 정치신학의 관점에서 치열하게 접근하여 오늘날 가장 창조적 신학자 가운데 한 사람으로 인정받고 있다.
